Farm wife thoughts

*ComposedΒ over the morning milking. Thoughts reflected on here are not toΒ be judgedΒ by my sleep deprived brain πŸ˜‰

It’s 10:15 p.m. I am in bed. This is early for me, but theΒ mornings I milk, I try to get to bed earlier, so the rest of the family doesn’t suffer too much from my grumpiness the next day πŸ™‚ I set 2 alarms. One for 3:20,to make sure hubby gets his sleep deprived body out of bed. One for me at 3:45. The phone tells me I have 5 hrs. and 28 min. till I need to move. Now I may be weird, but I always do this thing like, “I’m only getting 5 1/2 hrs. of sleep, and I have to do this, this, and this tomorrow, and I am going to be so tired till evening!” I mean, I practically make myself tired thinking this way πŸ™‚ I’m old enough to know that I function best on 6 to 7 hrs., but that’s not always possible, is it? πŸ™‚

Suffice it to say, I didn’t need an alarm clock. It came in the form of a little girl, and the pitter patter of her feet across the floor, before she crawled into bed with me. And began scratching. She had started with what I thought was poison, but turned into a rash across her belly and back and face. And she felt miserable. So I believe that was around 2, and till I got her back to sleep, I was too awake to drift off into a good sleep.

Bet you can guess my thoughts when the alarm did go πŸ˜‰ “I am so tired! I only had 4 hrs. of sleep! Why are we farmers?????!! Must I? πŸ™‚

I stumbled into the kitchen, and checked my one drawer that had appeared to have visitors in it. I knew there was visitors because they left me some presents in the form of terds. Now mice in my kitchen makes me mad! So I had set a trap. I opened the drawer and almost slammed it shut, because there was a creepy body lying there. Score one for me!

I finished getting ready, and headed out the door. Dale looked as bleary eyed as me. Time to milk those blessed cows. Yay! πŸ™‚

So I’m feeling a bit moody you know, because not enough sleep, you know πŸ™‚ And thus was this rambling post born πŸ™‚ By the way, something that helps me when I feel sour is to pray for other folks. Ones that have gone through tough times. Mothers that sit by hospital beds. Families that lost someone precious. Those withΒ health issues. The list goes on. And I soon have a much better attitude, and a thankful spirit.

And the moral of this all over the place post. If you think you want to be a dairy farmer, STOP! Dig in those heels, and don’t give in to the temptation! I’m joking!! πŸ™‚ The point here is, your attitude can make or break your day, That is all πŸ™‚

10 yrs. old

Dear son, you are growing into such a handsome boy, with your deep brown eyes, and freckles, and thick, long eyelashes. You remind me so much of your Dad. Your love of all things John Deere. Your dreaming of what to purchase next ;). Your ease at running anything with a motor. How can it be that my boy is on the threshold of adolescence? You are still a child. Yet. But I see you growing and changing.Β  You are thin, with bony legs and knobby knees, but you sure can show offΒ your hard muscles πŸ™‚ Some days, my frustration with you reaches out and grips me with it’s intensity. You are stubborn, and hot tempered, and dare I say, more like me than I care to admit. But that doesn’t change my love for you.

I was certain you’d never come, on that HOT, July day. Eleven, I repeat 11 days late, and you still wanted no parts of entering this big world. Pretty sure you would have been content in there another week or two, but the midwife said it’s time. I got bigger with you than any. You weighed the most too. I ate fresh blueberries while I labored away with you πŸ™‚ You were born with black hair, and almond shaped eyes, and you looked a bit like an Indian πŸ™‚

Now here we are. You are 10, and entering 4th grade. I do love seeing you grow. But slow down, son, slow down! devan and misc. july 2015 002 devan and misc. july 2015 004Like I said, he loves John Deere. Puppies everywhere

Right now, the big thing around here is our puppies. Zoey had 8 of them, 1 female, and 7 males. We told the children we’ll keep the female. Of course, that one died 😦 So now they argue which boy is going to stay πŸ™‚ At any rate, these guys are so cute! They are getting naughty, and playful. And they eat a lot πŸ™‚20150705_193034This was after the girl puppy died, and my sweet little man was in tears over it. So he spent some time sitting with the puppies.end of june & July 21015 017 end of june & July 21015 021july 2015 misc 007When I saw her heading up to the barn with these shoes on, I grabbed my camera πŸ™‚ Then she leaned in over the pen. They are for sale if anyone is interested πŸ™‚ We are pretty certain the father is a golden retriever (that’s who we saw around the farm), and Zoey is a lab mixed with we aren’t sure what πŸ™‚ The puppies definitely look like lab/retrievers. Next week they will be ready to go, so we will enjoy them while we have them πŸ™‚
